Video show reel

Here is my completed video show reel showcasing some of the work that I have produced during my studies. It features multiple music videos that I have created since 2017 as well as one side-scroller game I made in first year to show that I have skills in multiple areas. The show reel is edited to an instrumental version of Perfect Places by Lorde. I think this song works quite well as it sounds very uplifting, modern, and has simple chords which are easy to edit to.  I tried to make sure I had some visual matches such as where one girl in one of my videos flips her hair, it cuts to another shot of another girl flipping her hair in a different scene, just to flow nicely for the audience. Additionally, at one moment the music stops entirely for a second, before the beat drops, and at this moment I made sure there was no image on screen at all. This creates interest and excitement in my piece as the audience anticipates the next moment in the video. Here is the final result:  https://vime

Portfolio website

I have been hard at work making my portfolio website and it has finally all come together. Here is the process I followed to building it.  Initially I started using SquareSpace for my website, as I had seen a lot of adverts for it on YouTube and on podcasts, but after an hour of trying to build a website, I decided that it was not appropriate for what I was trying to make. I found the User Interface to be counter productive at times, and I think you have to pay a subscription to continue using the service past the free trial. I am not opposed to investing in my portfolio as I will touch on later, but I got bad vibes from SquareSpace and instead moved over to Wix.  Wix was a different story entirely. From the beginning I was asked what kind of website I wanted, if I wanted it to look minimal and simple or busy and dramatic, what colour scheme I was interested in etc. I found it really easy to build my website this way and found the whole process quite enjoyable.  Per my lectures with De

Letterhead, invoice, PowerPoint templates

Keeping within my gorgeous pink theme, these documents are templates for what I could use as letterhead and invoice examples for when I start getting paid work. They feature my logo and are on-brand with the rest of my digital assets. Additionally, I have also created a PowerPoint presentation design template that is also within the theme of my other products. It features all the necessary information including all of my contact details, as well as varied page layouts to keep the document looking interesting. I have decided to go with a vertical presentation design as I feel it looks a little more unique, and I am able to fit more information on them. Here are thumbnails of what my designs look like.

CV, cover letter, gratitude letter

I have found a particular vacancy with Rockstar games that has me really excited about the opportunity to work there, so I have decided to tailor my CV, cover letter and gratitude letter to fit this particular job description, and I will then actually submit an application.  The vacancy is for a Junior Production Designer who would be responsible for overseeing the creation of digital assets and content using Adobe Creative Cloud. I would be perfect for this job so I am doing my best to write an appropriate cover letter as well as a CV that surpasses the ATS. The ATS or Applicant Tracking System is a system that filters out CVs or resumes from other applicants. That is why I am tailoring my CV specifically for this job, by trying to include key words that are mentioned within the job description, such as "thrive under pressure" or "Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite".  As for my cover letter, I have tried to make it stand out a bit by talking about my personal exp

Personal branding, logo and business cards

When considering the type of brand that I wanted to create for myself I knew a few things right away. First off, I wanted it to be pink. A majority of my projects throughout my studies have had a pink theme to them. Mostly it's because I just really like the colour, and I think it has made some of my projects perhaps stand out a bit more. But I have thought about this beyond just the colour, and I want to show employers that my reasoning for picking this colour is to show that I am a little bit quirky  and different . It would be kind of boring and dull if I just went with some blue or grey design. That doesn't really fit my personality and so I wanted something that represented me. Additionally, when I asked my friend what I should consider for my personal brand he suggested pink. So there you go, I am pink.  The exact hex code I have chosen is #B88393. This is a muted pink which makes it easy for white text and logos to stand out against it. I did have a light pink theme init

Job hunting strategy

I have created an Excel document to track my progress when looking and applying for jobs. So far I have sent a few applications out to jobs within the gaming industry. Most notably Rockstar and Konami who are very famous developers. I'm not expecting for an interview or anything at this stage, but I thought it would be worthwhile noting down some of the developers and what jobs are out there that I might be interested in.

The Handmaid's Tale reflection

I have really enjoyed this part of the module for a number of reasons. It's really nice to have the opportunity to actually create something I can use for my portfolio by the time I graduate, and overall I think I made a good piece of work that I am personally quite proud of. I think I successfully captured the style of the existing ENO posters whilst still making something unique that they haven't already done before. I have experience using Adobe Illustrator from my time in college, but it's been a little while since I've created something from scratch, and making the mock-ups in Photoshop was a nice touch, so it was great to revisit these skills. It was really useful having all of the requirements and measurements set out for us. I like knowing exactly what is expected from me, so having a list of the exact measurements, resolution and format, as well as reference material made the process of making these designs an enjoyable and stress-free experience.
