End of the lemon

Image
Since we are reaching the end of this module, I thought I would do a final post to summarise my findings with the lemon project. To start with, I am very satisfied with the platform I used to create my content on. Had I used a social media platform like Instagram or Twitter to gain attention, I think I would have struggled since it is quite hard to get followers and likes without following loads of people or engaging with popular content creators. By using TikTok, I was able to effortlessly gain attention simply by posting at peak times regularly.  Because of the algorithm on TikTok which enables you to get views and likes and followers simply by posting regular and consistent content, using hashtags becomes redundant as a way of getting attention. Whilst it wouldn't hurt to include them so my videos would appear with the other amazing lemon content on TikTok, I didn't feel it necessary to gain small success on the platform. TikTok encourages this "anybody can do it" ...

Lemon highlights

Here are some of my favourite lemon TikToks that I have made during this project.

The Handmaid's Tale mock-ups

Image
For my presentation, I thought it would look professional if I included some mock-up images of the designs I have made, so the client could see how it would look in reality. Brochure Bus shelter ENO banner I made these in Photoshop by downloading mock-up files from https://mockups-design.com/. The format is a little wonky on the ENO banner unfortunately, as I was unable to find a mock-up file that matched the same dimensions that the client required. However, this still gives a good indication as to what the final products will look like.

The Handmaid's Tale other formats

Image
I have now completed all of my final designs for the rest of the formats. Here they all are: 1080pxl x 1080pxl social media icon. 48" x 70" Bus shelter / London underground poster. 100cm x 240cm ENO banner, hangs outside of the Lindon Coliseum. I like how skinny this poster is, and whilst giving the least amount of information compared to some of the other formats, I really like how clean and elegant it came out. It really uses the full-length image I created to it's advantage. 1920pxl x 1080pxl image for ENO website. 500pxl x 1080pxl image for ENO website, I like how I cropped half of her image in this poster to give it a different look to the others. Makes it stand out from the crowd.

The Handmaid's Tale A4 print

Image
I feel like the most important print that I am making is the A4 brochure print, so that is the one I am starting with. I imagine that the design choices I make here will influence the rest of the designs I will make.  Whilst making my design, I was often comparing it to the ENO examples we were given as reference to make sure it was in the same style as the other campaigns. This meant I could assure that I had the logos and text placed in the correct places so the design would stay consistent with the other posters. I also had access to some fonts that match the ENO posters.  I did some research on The Handmaid's Tale to make sure I had an appropriate log-line at the top of the poster, so that anyone who sees it knows a quick synopsis of what the story is about. Something I noticed in the other ENO posters was that there was a gradient in a radial format, so I made sure to add a dark red one to my design too to keep with the theme of The Handmaid's Tale. Here is what I came up...

The Handmaid's Tale development

Image
I have started creating my image for The Handmaid's Tale brief so I will do a walkthrough of my process here. I wanted to keep within the same style as the ENO promotional posters we were given as examples. These posters keep a very simple and minimal design, so I decided to make a very simple and clean vector image as my piece of art that I can apply to all the different necessary formats. Here I took a screenshot from one of the episodes of The Handmaid's Tale TV show and imported it into Adobe Illustrator. I traced around the outline of the woman using the pen tool. I then had the simple outline of the woman and decided to use the Live paint bucket tool to fill in the woman, using the eye-dropper tool to pick out the exact colours from the reference image. I liked how this looked but felt I could do a bit more detail, so I traced around some of the more complicated parts of the original image. This included the creases of the dress as well as the shadows and contours of her ...

Lemon update 2

I have made many videos now about lemons and they are pretty random and stupid to be perfectly honest, but I'm having fun doing it. Strangely enough I am actually gathering quite a following and at least one dedicated fan who loves commenting on my videos. I have tried to engage with as many of my lemon fans as possible by liking their comment, replying, and also making their comments into a video (a feature of TikTok) to keep engagement with my followers and create a good dynamic. Here's some examples of me engaging with a fan.
